Satira e schermaglie a Roma nell’Ottocento: per «Il Zibaldone» e Il Serpente dell’arcade Felice Mariottini

Dopo i recenti studi di Raffaele De Cesare, il contributo intende aggiungere testimonianze storiche e riflessioni riguardo alla biografia e ad alcune opere dell’arcade Felice Mariottini (1756-1827). In particolare, sono prese in esame le vicende relative a «Il Zibaldone», periodico fondato dallo stesso Mariottini nel 1818, e al Serpente, un pamphlet da lui scritto a propria difesa, dopo la soppressione della testata. Il contributo è seguito da quattro appendici: nella prima viene offerta la recensione aggiornata dei codici che trasmettono il Serpente; nella seconda si dà una trascrizione di servizio della prosa satirica; nella terza è pubblicata una lunga lettera indirizzata a Mariottini da un anonimo sodale, che contribuisce a restituire un quadro più obiettivo dei fatti relativi al Serpente; nella quarta, infine, viene ripubblicato un resoconto in francese degli avvenimenti.

Satire and skirmish in nineteenth-century Rome: about «Il Zibaldone» and Arcadia member Felice Mariottini’s Il Serpente
In the wake of Raffaele De Cesare’s recent studies, this contribution aims to add some testimonies and remarks to the biography and production of Arcadia member Felice Mariottini (1756-1827). In particular, the events revolving around the periodical «Il Zibaldone», founded by Mariottini himself in 1818, and the pamphlet Il Serpente, which Mariottini wrote in his defence after the periodical was suppressed, are scrutinized. The contribution is accompanied by four Appendixes: the first includes the updated recensio of the codices of Il Serpente; in the second a transcription is provided of the satirical prose; the third includes a long letter addressed to Mariottini by an anonymous fellow member, which might help paint a more objective picture of what happened with Il Serpente; and the fourth hosts a reprint of a French account of the events.
